Enriching the Middle East’s Economic Future Conference

On the occasion of the Enriching the Middle East’s Economic Future Conference which has taken place in Doha from 12-13 November 2017. The Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Collaboration with Middle East Development Center UCLA invited ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the State of Qatar, H.E. Tarik Sadović, to attend the opening ceremony. In an introductory speech Minister of Finance H.E. Ali Shareef al Emadi said that Qatar is fulfilling all international obligations. He addressed the audience: “Qatar has been providing developmental assistance in several regions across the world in an effort to ensure their economic growth and social stability. The world is still looking for factors to stimulate economic growth as an important input in achieving social justice and sustainable development.”

He stressed that achieving political, economic and social stability, especially in developing and least-developed countries, requires the international community to develop renewable and effective formulas. A sincere pursuit of strong and effective partnership between countries is the need of the hour.”

Talking about the Middle East, the minister said that economic growth of the countries in the region is linked to their political stability. “Security challenges in the region continue to be a major obstacle to political and economic reforms, and sustainable development.” Successive developments in the Middle East require policies that respect the principles of international legitimacy in its true sense and monitoring of violations of international humanitarian law, the minister said. It is also important, he added, to examine ways to adhere to the true meaning of international obligation, including the respect for human rights and ensuring mutual respect in international relations. “The countries, the United Nations and other international and regional organizations must assume their responsibilities and always adhere to the rule of law and international legitimacy, the minister said. On Qatar’s plans to achieve prosperity, Emadi said the government’s pursuit of the ambitions Qatar National Vision 2030 — the country’s long-term development plan aimed at reducing dependence on hydrocarbons and creating a diversified economy driven by service — has resulted in remarkable growth. Speaking about the conference, the minister pointed out that the conference was being held amid a host of economic, political and security challenges to the world.
