Bosnian expatriates in Qatar will have an opportunity to formally gather as a community at the Embassy of Bosnia Herzegovina premises in November, 2014.
“We have a plan to organise a meeting with our citizens on the premises of our Embassy building some time in November end. We extend our invitation to all our countrymen for the open day event,” the ambassador said.
“We have a plan to organise a meeting with our citizens on the premises of our Embassy building some time in November end. We extend our invitation to all our countrymen for the open day event,” the ambassador said.
While some community members are already in contact with one another, it is hoped that the planned event will widen the circle of friendships and cooperation in the community. The ambassador noted,”I came to Qatar with my wife two days before Eid Al-Adha. The moment I arrived, a group of Bosnian citizens invited us on the second day of Eid Al-Adha to celebrate the holiday together. Eid Al-Adha is a joyous day and it is spent even better in the company of friends and countrymen.”Discussing the size of the Bosnian community, the ambassador said that, while the number was relatively small, it was increasing steadily. He said,”The community of Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens in Qatar is not large. We estimate that it numbers around 500 people. However, these numbers are steadily increasing every year. Among the community here are a lot of highly educated people such as doctors, engineers and sport trainers. Some of them have been living here for many years and are respected members of the Qatar community. You could say that they are our unofficial ambassadors.””We shall try to consider our situation and strive to find a better way to connect and organise our countrymen staying in Qatar. I would like to propose establishing of an Association of Qatar and Bosnia-Herzegovina friendship, in accordance with the local laws. This association can make great strides in the path towards better mutual understanding and strengthening of our relations and connections. Also, it can help solve some status issues,” the ambassador added, indicating further plans for bringing together the Bosnian community in Qatar.
We at the BiH embassy are pleased to announce that the gathering was a resounding success. Given the results, we will endeavor to make this a new tradition here in the Doha embassy! 🙂
