According to the annual report, the foundation received donations worth of QR 555 million and spent QR481 million on projects QR409 million for overseas and QR72 million for domestic usage. The relief work topped these projects, as the cost amounted to QR128 million, two-thirds of which were spent in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Myanmar and the rest was distributed to 19 African and Asian countries under the umbrella of international law. The Sheikh Eid Charity also conducted several projects in various areas such as health, housing, development work for orphans and schools to alleviate the suffering of children in need in different countries.
Speaking at a briefing session for the diplomatic community in Qatar on the Charitable Association’s annual report of 2016, Ali Al Suwaidi the Director-General of the foundation said: “Sheikh Eid Charity has several medical teams and field hospitals to provide treatment to the wounded and displaced people fighting at the troubled fronts and camps in Syria. The foundation has lost a number of its doctors and paramedics in the country.” Suwaidi said that the activities of Eid Charity in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and the Philippines are based on the principle of “human first and foremost” and are far from any ideological inclinations.
Chairman of Eid Charity, Sheikh Eid bin Mohammed, said the activities of Sheikh Eid Charity in 2016 has enhanced the role of Qatar in the humanitarian field across the world.
Meeting (25. 01. 2017.) was attended by ambassadors and representatives from the Netherlands, Spain, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Tunisia, Bosnia, Somalia, Niger, Sudan, Turkey, Brazil, Canada, Argentina, France, America, Australia and the representative of the Syrian Coalition and head of the regional authority in Darfur Tijani Sisi, along with representatives from the private sector.
